The MB-2B Fat Control is a boutique pedal made in the USA, designed by James Demeter to provide a natural boost to the midrange and sustain without altering the guitar's character. Originally developed as a built-in circuit, it was later offered in pedal format. Unlike a simple boost, it affects a carefully selected, wide range of midrange frequencies, creating the impression of thicker, more powerful pickups while maintaining definition. With Stratocaster single-coils, it approaches the tone of a P-90 pickup, while with humbuckers, it adds more body and presence. The pedal features a single control, "Flat/Fat," which gradually adjusts the midrange boost, and incorporates a high-quality buffer and true bypass.
