As early as 1954, Gibson offered more affordable alternatives to its flagship models with the introduction of the Junior: the same quality of craftsmanship and assembly, but with fewer finishes to keep costs down. First with the Les Paul, then the SG, it's worth remembering that the Kalamazoo-based company acquired Epiphone in 1957. Thus, this Coronet, made in the same workshops as its Gibson cousins, follows the same formula: a mahogany body and neck, a rosewood fretboard, and a single P90 pickup with volume and tone controls. This 1964 example boasts a rare and magnificent Silver Fox finish, a hue that has turned green over its 60 years of existence! It's period-correct, except for the absence of the tonearm on the Maestro vibrato, a refret, a replaced nut, and the relocation of the strap button for improved balance. The icing on the cake is that this Coronet weighs only 2.7kg! Sold in its original case.
