Launched in 1958 alongside the Flying V, both models were a resounding commercial failure. It wasn't until 1976 that Gibson revived production of the Explorer! This particular example is a rare Custom Shop version. It features Custombucker pickups, a very comfortable neck that is significantly thicker than usual for this type of guitar, and a one-piece mahogany body—a remarkable feat for such a large instrument. In excellent condition, it comes with its original case and certificate of authenticity.
