The Gibson Greenybucker is a set of two humbuckers designed to reproduce the very distinctive character of the PAF pickups on the famous Les Paul "Greeny," now owned by Kirk Hammett. Gibson makes them with unpolished Alnico 2 magnets, asymmetrical windings, and an unpotted construction, with an average resistance of 8.3 kΩ at the neck and 8.7 kΩ at the bridge. The key feature is the neck pickup with reversed magnetic polarity: in the middle position, the two pickups produce the famous out-of-phase Greeny tone, very scooped, nasal, and "honky," particularly well-suited for blues and solos. Outside of this position, they offer a fairly open, dynamic, and harmonically rich vintage PAF sound, with a moderate output level geared towards blues, classic rock, and vintage hard rock. The Greenybuckers are wired with two conductors and are available with nickel covers and black humbucker coils.
