After the XR series of the early 80s, Gibson was still experimenting with its budget-friendly version of the Les Paul. Indeed, the construction of this 1983 Custom Shop Edition is closer to a Standard than the current Studio models: binding for the body and neck. However, its silkscreened logo and dot inlays hint at certain Studio-specific features. This Les Paul, very light thanks to its 5mm thinner body, weighs only 3.68 kg! As for modifications, this 1983 example was once fitted with a Bigsby tremolo, the pickups are a Seymour Duncan '59 in the bridge position and a DiMarzio DP194 PAF in the neck position, the frets, bridge, stop bar, and tuners have all been replaced. It's a player's guitar, but also a piece of history from a period of significant change for the brand: management shift, the move from Kalamazoo to Nashville, the return to a more "classic" construction, and so on.
