The Snake Comp Plus is a high-end Japanese boutique compressor, designed by Shinichi Suzuki, that aims to combine the warmth of vintage compressors with the low noise of modern circuits. Its main strength is a very big, warm, and natural sound with plenty of sustain, while remarkably preserving attack and playing nuances. The Plus version notably offers PUNCH and PRES controls in addition to the classic controls, allowing for separate adjustment of punch and presence/treble; an ATTACK selector also allows for modifying the compressor's response. It can range from very subtle, almost imperceptible compression to a much more pronounced effect, without easily becoming artificial. This is particularly interesting for clean tones, funk, country, blues, and arpeggios, but also for simply thickening a guitar's sound permanently. Shin's Music rightly emphasizes its very low noise floor, which corrects one of the common drawbacks of vintage compressors.
